Module 1: Sums and Differences to 20
This module has only 8 lessons. To save time, it might be easier to bag manipulatives ahead of time. Included in the resources are detailed materials lists for each module. I'll post images of each of the types of manipulatives you will need here in case you aren't sure what you need. If you use the PPT slides, you may notice I have created images and taken photos and placed them on the slides. It serves to eliminate the need to use demonstration materials if you didn't have access to them. If you have the materials, it is just a second way for the students to see the model. You could show the item and refer to it on the slide as well. Module 1 Problem Sets are updated as of 1/5/15 in google drive.** You may find this module a bit challenging for your students at the beginning of the year. Students may not know their math facts and that will end up making this module all the more frustrating and challenging for them. I will be pushing math facts for homework for the students who don't know them and we will be having regular math fact quizzes until they are more proficient at this skill. Of course, this is on top of the sprints we are already doing. Feel free to also take time to review the concepts from the day before if you don't feel like the students "got it". If they need more "hands-on", give them more practice with that. Continue to show them how the concrete relates to the abstract. |
